NATCHEZ — An award-winning writer is partnering with the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society to help out local furry friends.
NACHS is hosting a book signing celebrating Southern author Rheta Grimsley Johnson’s latest book, “The Dogs Buried Over The Bridge” Thursday at Magnolia Hall.
In the book, Johnson tells her life’s story through “tender tales of her canine friends.” The memoir uses Johnson’s dogs as metaphors for love, loss and life alongside eccentric neighbors, friends and three husbands.
NACHS board member Deanne Tanksley said the proceeds from the event, sponsored by The Gillon Group, and the evening’s book sales will go toward operations of the new NACHS shelter.
“It’s not an inexpensive venture to try to adequately house and take care of all these animals,” Tanksley said.
Although Tanksley said Johnson has no direct connection to Natchez, she said the author was interested in doing a book signing in the area. NACHS supporters, Tanksley said, seized the opportunity to make the event a fundraiser.
As a member of the Natchez Garden Club, Tanksley said she is pleased the event will also be a chance to showcase Magnolia Hall, owned by NGC.
“We’re really helping out multiple recipients,” Tanksley said.
Cocktails at the cash bar begin at 5:30 p.m., and the signing, which is free to attend, will start at approximately 6 p.m.
