NATCHEZ — Services for Nancy Daniels Carter Johnson, 88, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Woodland, Texas, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Burial will follow at the Mount Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Centreville under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m.

Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 13, 1928, in Centreville, the daughter of Monroe Daniels Sr. and Elvira Newton Daniels.

She received her primary education from the Amite County public school system and received her bachelor of arts degree in business and bachelor of science degree in education from Alcorn A&M College.

Mrs. Johnson retired in 1992, from the Concordia Parish School Board as an elementary school teacher of 43 years. She was also a board certified cosmetologist.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the Stewardess Board No. 2, the Young People’s Department and was a member of the Heroines of Jericho. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, hair styling, watching basketball and Christian television.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kirby Johnson; five brothers, OJ, Will, Monroe Jr., Edward and Isaac; and five sisters, Helen, Asilee, Lucille, Ethel and Earlina.

Survivors include one son, Donnie Carter and wife, Carolyn; one daughter, Kirbre Ruth Johnson; one brother, Douglas Mars and wife, Evelyn; two sisters, Bessie Perry and Margie Taplin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends who loved her deeply and will miss her very much.
