NATCHEZ — The Natchez Adams School Board approved Thursday the calendar for the 2016-17 school year.
District stakeholders were presented with two options in February. The main difference between the two was that option A finished school three days earlier, but option B had more holiday breaks.
The majority of the district’s staff voted for the second option, and the school board backed that opinion by unanimously approving calendar B.
Students will have a 60-percent day on Friday, Dec. 16, and be off from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3, and get two days for Mardi Gras on Feb. 27-28. The last day of class is May 25, which is a 60-percent day.
The school system is required to have 180 teaching days with an average of 330 minutes of instruction each day. Only two 60-percent days are allowed.
The calendar has the minimum 180 teaching days built in. The only listed wiggle room provided in the schedule is the Monday after Easter Holiday on April 17, 2017, which can become a full make-up day in the event of inclement weather cancelations.
