FERRIDAY — Services for Sam Newton Wells Sr., 57, of Monterey, who died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Doty Road Church of God with the Rev. Simeon Greene officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Wells was born July 20, 1953, in Monterey, the son of Coley and Thelma Lewis Wells.

Mr. Wells served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Robert Wells and Coley Wells Jr.; and one sister, Bettye Taylor.

Survivors include his mother of Monterey; his wife, Lucille Green Wells of Ferriday; one son, Sam Wells Jr. of Vidalia; two daughters, Angela Wells and Sha’Londa Wells of Ferriday; four brothers, Marty Wells of Monterey, James Wells and wife, Mildred, of Houston, Texas, Jerry Wells and wife, Tina, of Baton Rouge and Danny Wells of Dallas; six sisters, Wanda Lewis of Houston, Zula Langston of Spring, Texas, Phyllis Wells of Arlington, Texas, Mary Wells of Calloway, Fla., Mattie Wells of Norfork, Va., and Ella Wells Pleasant of Sugarland, Texas; and six grandchildren.
