NATCHEZ — Services for George A. Vaught III, 66, of Lake St. John, who died Sunday, March 13, 2016, after a lengthy illness at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denny Callaway and the Rev. Warren Whitaker officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

George, or Chipper as he was known by his family, was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Natchez, the son of George A. Vaught Jr. and Dorothy Reece Vaught.

He was a graduate of South Natchez High School and continued his education at Mississippi State University, where he earned a degree in business and a degree in industrial arts. He was an avid Bulldog football fan.

George was an industrial arts teacher with the Natchez-Adams School System. He retired in 2003, after teaching for more than 20 years.

George enjoyed fishing, boating, and “tinkering.” He also loved woodworking — there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. He built his house and pier on Lake St. John. Until his illness, George was a very active member of the Church of Christ in Natchez.

Mr. Vaught was preceded in death by his parents and Aunt “E” Carter.

He was also preceded in death by his faithful dog, Lucy.

Survivors include his one sister, Ruby Leigh Edgerton and husband, Dr. Don Edgerton, of Alexandria, La; one brother, Gerald Vaught and wife, Janet, of Lake Concordia; one uncle, Sonny Carter of Woodville; his nieces and nephews and their spouses, their children; and the rest of his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chad Vaught, Don Edgerton Jr., Grady Brashier, Warren Whitaker Jr., Eddie Ray and Ray Skates.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church, Natchez Church of Christ or to a charity of choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Ingram, the nurses and staff at Riverland Medical Center, Camelot Rehabilitation and Camellia Hospice.
