Blue skies were a welcome sight Sunday morning after a string of days filled with gray clouds and rain. As we dry out from last week’s torrential downpours and look forward to sunnier days ahead, let’s not forget some of the good news from last week:

-Congratulations to Monterey School fifth-grader Dathan Trant who was named one of the Concordia Parish School District’s students of the year. His interest in math and a love for hands-on science experiments will set him on a future that will reach much higher than an exploding bottle of Coke filled with Mentos — a project he did last year.

-The Natchez Children’s Home celebrated 200 years of saving lives one child at a time. What started as an effort by eight local women to help educate and house children orphaned by war and yellow fever has turned into a local organization that guards the lives of children who suffer from abuse, emotional distress and the effects of poverty. Thank you to this organization for providing this vital service to our community.

-The Adams County Extension Service was literally buzzing with activity as instructors from Mississippi State University demonstrated the art of beekeeping to local residents interested in starting their own hives. Thank you to our local extension office for providing such educational and enterprising seminars for local residents.

-A rain soaked Beau Pré Country Club didn’t prevent organizers of the Magnolia Bluffs Casino Classic from showing golf pros on the Swing Thought Tour genuine Natchez hospitality. Even though storms eventually washed out the pro-golf tournament, organizers were happy they squeezed in a long-drive competition, pro-am and shootout before the storms arrived.

Now that the dark clouds have given away to blue skies, let’s look forward to another week of good news.
