NATCHEZ — The 2016 Magnolia Bluffs Casino Classic at Beau Pré Country Club is officially a wash.

Severe weather and lightning throughout the week forced stoppages and pauses kept golfers competing on the SwingThought Tour from completing the minimum required holes to call an official winner for the event.

Tournament chairman Woody Allen declared his own winner.

“The rain won,” he said.

Allen said the tournament staff called the final round Saturday at approximately 3:15 p.m. Allen spent a lot of his time rushing hole to hole and back to the Beau Pré clubhouse to update golfers on the status of the tournament. Allen commended the grounds staff for the work they did on the course during what seemed to be relentless rain throughout the week.

“Our staff did a great job as far as trying to get the course in good condition and trying to get the course playable after each rain,” Allen said. “Putting pumps in bunkers and squeegeeing greens. In the end there was more water than the golf course could stand.”

Allen said there were some positives, however, as they managed to squeeze in a few events before the severe weather swept in Wednesday.

“We had a great week as far as getting in our long drive competition and the pro-am and the shootout,” Allen said. “We saw them play one round, although it was in a 30 mph wind.”

A number of individual golfers will travel to Alexandria, La., for a Web.com Tour qualifier Monday. Those that fail to qualify or choose not to participate will continue moving west to SwingThought Tour’s next event in Texarkana, Texas.

“It was a busy week, but it was fun,” Allen said.
