FERRIDAY — Two Ferriday men have been indicted on second-degree murder charges for their alleged role in a fatal November 2015 shooting.
A Concordia Parish grand jury returned the indictments against Jacari Burns, 17, 8618 U.S. 84 West, and Johnnie Lee Washington, 24, 617 Georgia Ave., earlier this week.
The grand jury did not indict a third man — Treyon D. Green — who was initially charged in connection with the killing.
Green and Washington were initially charged with principle to second-degree murder and principle to two counts attempted second-degree murder, while Burns was charged with second-degree murder and two counts attempted second-degree murder.
The incident for which the two men were indicted happened Nov. 14, 2015, when Burns allegedly fired from a vehicle into the vehicle where the victim — Ladarius Wiggins, 23, of Clayton — was a passenger.
Washington was allegedly in the vehicle with Burns at the time of the shooting, and two others were reportedly in the vehicle with Wiggins.
A Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman said at the time the shooting was believed to be an escalation of a disagreement Burns had with someone in the second vehicle.
The shooting happened at the corner of Kentucky Avenue and 10th Street in Ferriday.
An indictment means the grand jury believes sufficient evidence exists to warrant a full examination of the case against a suspect at trial.
