NATCHEZ — Five people, including two juveniles, were arrested Wednesday afternoon after Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped them as they hauled a stolen trailer filled with stolen ATVs.
The stop, which happened on Duck Pond Road, followed a call from a local resident who thought the vehicle looked suspicious.
The trailer and a dirt bike had been stolen from inside the city limits, while another dirt bike and a four-wheeler had been stolen from a location in the county, though a news release from the ACSO said none of the property owners knew the property was missing until investigators contacted them.
“Thanks to an alert citizen notifying the ACSO about suspicious activity involving this vehicle, deputies were able to recover several thousand dollars worth of property belonging to some hard working people,” Sheriff Travis Patten said. “We really appreciate our citizens getting involved with assisting law enforcement in fighting crime in our community.”
Those arrested include Trodarrius Carter, Aurelious Davis, Emanuel Carl Latham and two juveniles. All were charged with four counts of grand larceny.
Latham is currently awaiting trial for his alleged role in the shooting death of 16-year-old Jessie Taylor in late 2014. Latham testified against his co-defendant — Eddie Minor — last year, but the case ended in mistrial.
