Parish heads to polls Saturday

VIDALIA — Concordia Parish voters will head to the polls Saturday to elect mayors of Vidalia and Ferriday and other local officials, as well as to cast their voters in the presidential party primaries.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Those on the ballot include:
-Vidalia mayor — Hyram Copeland and Buz Craft, both Democrats.
-District 2 Vidalia alderman — Robert Lee Gardner Jr., Democrat; Raymond Murray, Republican; and Vernon Stevens Jr., Democrat.
-District 3 Vidalia alderman (three to be elected) — Jon D. Betts, Republican; Sabrina Dore, Republican; Richard S. “Ricky” Knapp, independent; and Tommy Probst, Republican.
-Vidalia police chief — Arthur K. Lewis, Democrat, and Joey Merrill, independent.
-Ferriday mayor — Gene Allen, Justin Conner, Ruth Gray and Sherrie “Ms. Mac” Jacobs, all Democrats.
-District B Ferriday alderman— Elijah “Stepper” Banks and Chryl Smith Lee, both Democrats.
-District D Ferriday alderman — Johnnie Brown, independent; Andre J. Keys, Democrat; and Marcus “Slim” Martin, independent.
-District E Ferriday alderman — Andrew Howard Jr., independent, and Gloria Lloyd, Democrat.
-Clayton mayor — Rydell Turner and Josephine Taylor Washington, both Democrats.
-Clayton aldermen (five to be elected) — Floyd Lavon Barber, Willie “Bill” Evans, Houston Holmes, Irene Jefferson, all Democrats, Donna G. Keith, independent, and Shannon Burns Madison, Democrat.
-Clayton police chief — Bobby L. Madison Sr. and Clarence “PaPa” Skipper, both Democrats.
Other candidates on the ballot are running unopposed.
For the presidential primary, which is a closed primary in Louisiana, only voters who are registered with one of the two political parties can vote for their party’s nominee.
Those who are not registered with a party can still vote in the local elections.
Louisiana has 59 pledged Democratic delegates and 46 Republican delegates.
