Jefferson County boys, girls earn wins

WESSON — Diamond Smith posted 22 points to lead Jefferson County High School to a 72-32 win over Wilkinson County in the Region 7-3A girls tournament.
With the win the Lady Tigers advance to play in the region title game.
Jar’Qualya Doss scored 15 and Kailyen Hammett had 12 points and 10 assists. Antrell Gales added 12 points. Sharicka Franklin led Wilkinson County with 15 points.
JCHS will tip off its championship game at 7 p.m. today.
Jefferson County (boys) 71, Wesson 51
WESSON — Christian Day scored a game-high 25 points in the Tigers’ 71-54 win against Wesson, leading Jefferson County High School to a Region 7-3A championship berth.
Jefferson County overcame a 21-15 deficit in the first quarter to take a 37-31 lead at halftime. Jefferson County’s offensive momentum continued in the second half, outscoring Wesson 33-23 in the second half.
Akeem Williams and Josh Day also had prosperous nights for Jefferson County, both scoring 18 points.
Anthony Jones led Wesson with 18 points.
Jefferson County (14-10) advances to the region championship game, set for 8:30 p.m. tonight.
