NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Graveside services with full military honors for Walter L. Loyd Jr., 67, of Cache, Ark., who died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his residence, were 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark.
Burial followed under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Lawton, Okla.
Mr. Loyd was born March 16, 1943, in Helena, Ark., the son of Walter L. Sr., and Ruth Loyd. He grew up in West Helena and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, at Houston, Texas. He served in the Army for 21 years and retired at Fort Ord, Calif., Aug. 31, 1983. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam.
He married Dena Willcox Aug. 3, 1984, in Pine Bluff, Ark., and lived in Whitehall for seven years. Following his retirement from the Army he worked as a courier. He and his wife moved to the Lawton area to be near family in 2010.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Heather Loyd of Old Forge, Pa., and Charissa Bell of Heber Springs, Ark.; one son, Devin Bell of Beebe, Ark.; one sister, Mary Ellen Steinbeck of Cypress, Calif.; one brother, William T. Loyd of Natchez; two grandchildren, Dillin Bell and Peyton Bell, both of Beebe; and a number of nieces and nephews.
