NAMPA, Idaho — Services for Crawford Lee Newman Sr., 82, who died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, were 10 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Church in Nampa, Idaho.
A second service will be at noon Monday at Cranfield Baptist Church in Roxie.
Burial will follow under the direction of Nampa Funeral Home in Nampa.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Crawford was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Gillsburg, the son of Bilbo and Hettie Lou Newman.
He was the oldest of nine children from Ponchatoula, La. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He also served in Korea under the 34th Bomb SQ Thunderbirds from 1952 to 1954. Beginning with a pen-pal relationship, this Louisiana man married his Mississippi woman, Mae Lafayette Brady, Aug. 27, 1954. They lived in Indiana and Wyoming before making Natchez their home while raising their 10 children.
Crawford was a jack of all trades, but found his calling as an operating engineer. In 1985, the family moved to Nampa, and he became a long-haul truck driver. Everything he did was a family affair. He was involved in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, sports and church activities with his children. The family enjoyed camping trips, holidays and family events, which were always so important.
He spent his last days at home with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Crawford was preceded in death by four sons, Joseph Lee, Crawford Lee Jr., Leslie (Jughead) and John (Danny); his parents; one brother, Bilbo Jr.; and three sisters, Mary Grace, Willie Mae and Pamela Lue.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Mae; seven children, Cheryl Renfrow and husband, Billy, of Natchez, Lisa Berrett and husband, Joe, of Melba, Idaho, Julie Skovgard and husband, Troy, of Kuna, Idaho, James Newman and wife, Jenna, of Kuna, Paul Newman and wife, Cari, of Nampa, Paula Flaherty and husband, Wesley, of Middleton, Idaho, and Bo Newman and wife, Amber, of Caldwell, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, Brandon Renfrow and wife, Amanda, Jessica Parton and husband, Chris, Joshua and Alisha Newman, Anna Billings and husband, Ty, Newman and wife, Janessa, Jerod and Georgia Barrett, Simon and wife, Anne, Heather and Wyatt Skovgard, Kaylee and Kacie Newman and Hailey McKee, and Courtney and Curtis Flaherty; 15 great-grandchildren, Logan, Wesley and Dalin Newman, Brooklyn, Cheyenne and Bradley Renfrow, Tyler and Kendra Renfrow-McDonald, Nathan and Levi Parton, Kayden and Tyson Billings, Jackson and Aryn Williams and Troy Thomas Skovgard; one sister, Brenda DeSaix of Nampa; four brothers, Charles Newman and wife, Dot, of Holden, La., Earl Newman and wife, Debra, of Gloster, James Newman and wife, Connie, of Hammond, La., and Stanley Timberlake of Nampa; and two daughters-in-law, ShanDel Lockyer of Crane, Ore., and Sheila Newman-King of Boise, Idaho.
The family extends special thanks to the Life Care Center of Boise for the wonderful care provided, especially Tom, Cheryl, Sarah, Tamera and Michelle. Thanks to Jeff and Sherry from Legacy Hospice for enriching his last days at home. Most of all, we would like to thank Cathy Fischer, medical case manager, for 30 years of dedication to our family.
