Vidalia Board of Aldermen to meet about personnel

VIDALIA — The Vidalia Board of Aldermen will have a special-called meeting to discuss personnel two days after declining to enter into executive session to discuss allegations of employee misconduct.
The only item on the agenda for the special meeting, which is set for noon today in the meeting room at City Hall, is an executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
The agenda does not note to whom the personnel matter pertains.
Alderman Ricky Knapp said Wednesday the matter to be discussed was one he first raised at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting, when he made a motion to add an executive session to the agenda to discuss possible investigation of allegations of wrongdoing by a city employee.
While Alderman Jon Betts seconded the motion, the other three board members did not join Knapp and Betts in supporting it, and the matter was not added to the agenda for discussion. Adding an item to the agenda requires unanimous consent from the board.
Knapp said Wednesday he could not discuss the matter further, and did not know why the meeting was set for Thursday.
“I don’t know why we couldn’t do something (Tuesday), but I guess we will find out (Thursday),” he said.
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland did not respond to a phone message Wednesday afternoon, and a Vidalia spokesperson did not return an email requesting further information.
