GIRLS ROUNDUP: Natchez girls roll past Wingfield on road

NATCHEZ — The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs asserted themselves with a dominant first quarter and went on to defeat Wingfield 60-37 Friday night in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game.

Skylar Morgan finished with a game-high 20 points and Ernesha Chatman contributed with 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who scored 28 points first-quarter points to Wingfield’s four.

With the win, Natchez High (17-7, 5-1) will be the No. 1 seed in the girls’ bracket when it hosts the Region 6-5A Tournament Feb. 16 and 19.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Jackson Friday to square off against Class 6A Jim Hill.

Sterlington 45, Ferriday 35

STERLINGTON, La. — Ferriday had a rough first half offensively and not even a shutout of Sterlington in the third quarter was enough as they fell to the Lady Panthers 45-35 Friday night.

Ferriday scored just four points in each of the first two quarters and found itself trailing 27-8 at halftime. The Lady Trojans used an 8-0 advantage in the third quarter to make it an 11-point game, but the Lady Panthers found their rhythm in the fourth quarter. Zhane Green led Ferriday (8-15, 3-5) with 14 points.

The Lady Trojans host Mangham Monday.

Winnfield 76, Vidalia 20

WINNFIELD, La. — The Winnfield Lady Tigers remained undefeated in LHSAA District 3-3A with a 76-20 win over Vidalia.

Angel Heckard and Ebony Walker scored seven points apiece for the Lady Vikings (7-18, 1-11), who play host Monday to Buckeye High School.

Jefferson County 70, Hazlehurst 39

HAZLEHURST — Jefferson County High School simply had too many weapons for Hazlehurst High School to slow down — on both ends of the court — as the Lady Tigers rolled to a 70-39 win.

Diamond Smith registered a triple-double with 28 points, 14 blocked shots and 12 rebounds. Antrell Gales and Kailyn Hammett each had double-doubles. Gales finished with 15 points and 10 blocks while Hammett scored 11 points and dished out 10 assists. ReKeijah Williams had eight assists to go with seven points.

The Lady Tigers (19-3, 8-0) play Tuesday at Wilkinson County.

Silliman Institute 48, Centreville Academy 42

CLINTON, La. —Second-seeded Silliman Institute held on for a 48-42 win over third-seeded Centreville Academy Friday afternoon in a girls’ semifinal-round game at the MAIS District 5-AAA Tournament.

The loss sends Centreville Academy into the consolation game, which will take place at 4 p.m. today. The Lady Tigers will take on No. 4 seed Central Private School to determine the district’s third and fourth seeds for next week’s Class AAA South State tournament.

Montgomery 35, Block 32

JONESVILLE — The third quarter proved to be the undoing for Block as it fell to Montgomery 35-32 in an LHSAA District 3-1A game Friday night.

Block went into halftime down just one point, 13-12, but the Lady Tigers put some distance between themselves and the Lady Bears with an 11-7 advantage in the third quarter.

LaKisica Bowman had a game-high 18 points for the Lady Bears (10-12, 3-5), who play Tuesday at Logansport.
