VICKSBURG — From the way the first quarter went, it looked like St. Aloysius was on its way to an easy win over rival Cathedral Friday night.

The Flashes had a 12-point lead and appeared to be in control of the game. But the Green Wave responded with a big third quarter to tie the game, only to come up just short in a 52-49 loss in a Region 7-1A game.

Cathedral (6-9, 1-3) made just five of its first 14 free throws, which Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold described as “horrible by anybody’s standards.”

“It was another game that we could’ve won. We just didn’t make the plays to win,” Arnold said.

Cathedral was led by Carl Hammitte with 17 points and D.J. Perry with 13 points. The Green Wave play at Wilkinson County Christian Academy today.

Wilkinson County 57,

Tylertown 46

WOODVILLE — Kenyon McDonald scored a game-high 20 points and Devin Fosselman had 11 points as the Wilkinson County Wildcats remained undefeated in Region 7-3A by defeating the Tylertown Chiefs Friday night.

The Wildcats went into a slump offensively in the third quarter and scored just nine points, allowing the Chiefs to cut their lead at intermission to four points by the end of the quarter. But that would be as close as Tylertown would get. With McDonald and Fossleman leading the way, Wilkinson County put up 19 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from a pesky Chiefs squad.

Tylertown was led by J. Dillon with 12 points and Badon with 11 points.

Wilkinson County (9-11, 6-0) play at Franklin County next Tuesday night.

Trinity Episcopal 70,

Oak Forest 62

AMITE, La. — Tip McKenzie scored a season-high 33 points as the Trinity Episcopal Saints rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets Friday night.

Oak Forest jumped out to an 18-11 lead after one quarter before Trinity responded with a 20-point second quarter to take a 31-28 halftime lead. But the Yellow Jackets used their balanced scoring attack to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.

However, the Yellow Jackets were stung by the play of McKenzie, Kent King and Tanner Cage in the final eight minutes. Trinity ended up outscoring Oak Forest 27-18 in the fourth quarter.

King finished with 11 points and Cage added 10 points for Trinity (16-4), ranked No. 3 in Class A. The Saints host Bowling Green School today.

Ferriday 57, Lake Providence 49

FERRIDAY — Charles Chandler scored 15 points and Ted’Rai Gullage had 12 points to lead the Ferriday Trojans past the Lake Providence Panthers in District 2-2A action Friday night.

Ferriday (2-13, 1-1) jumped out to a 16-5 lead over Lake Providence at the end of the first quarter and then took a 31-17 lead into halftime. The Panthers tried to come back in the second half, but the 14-point deficit was too big to dig out of.

The Trojans will be on the road next Tuesday night when they take on Mangham.
