NATCHEZ — This weekend is expected to be warm and sunny, and plenty of events will be available for those with cabin fever after a cold and rainy week.
Temperatures are expected to climb throughout the weekend, from 65 degrees Friday to 70 degrees on Saturday and 74 degrees on Sunday.
Lows will be in the low 40s Saturday, and in the 50s the rest of the weekend.
No chance of rain is expected Friday and Sunday, and only a 10-percent chance exists on Saturday.
Tricentennial Art Exhibit
A reception for the Tricentennial Art Exhibit will be 5 p.m. today at the Historic Natchez Foundation building on Commerce Street.
The reception will kick off a month-long art exhibit featuring five nationally known former Natchezians who will return home to share their work with the Miss-Lou community.
The artists will attend the reception. Members and non-members of the foundation are invited.
“Big River”
The Natchez Little Theatre production of “Big River” will open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The play, based on Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” is a tale of adventure and self-discovery, set largely on a raft floating down the Mississippi River in the 1840s.
All tickets are $20, and shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are for sale at natcheztheatre.com or by calling 601-442-2233.
Krewe of the Natchez Indians Mardi Gras Parade
The annual Natchez Indians parade will be 6 p.m. Friday in the historic district of downtown Natchez.
Some streets will be closed for the parade. Floats will line up on Broadway Street to prepare, then turn on Canal Street, up Main Street, left on Rankin Street, left on Franklin Street, then return to Broadway Street.
Parade director Curtis Moroney asks local residents not to park on the west side of Broadway Street on Friday afternoon.
