Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Simmons was born Aug. 27, 1955, in Natchez, the son of Reginald Trenton Simmons and Shirley Cozad Simmons.

Clyde was a faithful member of Park Place Baptist Church and served as a deacon and was a member of the adult choir.

Clyde retired from International Paper Company in 2008, where he worked in the land and timber division. Everyone that knew him, knew he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of hunting, but especially coon hunting. He raised and loved his Bluetick Coonhounds and was always excited to hear and see them tree.

It would be impossible for us to celebrate Clyde’s life without celebration of his faith. He trusted in the Lord for salvation and in God’s “plan” for his life. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he would say, “This is not my plan, but His plan for his life.” Clyde taught us to ground ourselves by trusting in the Lord and to let Him lead us in all that we do. This is how his family would like to remember him and his life: Live lovingly and peacefully knowing that God has a plan for your life if you trust and put your faith in Him.

Clyde was preceded in death by his father; one nephew, Trenton Delane Simmons Jr.; son-in-law, John Allen Shivers; brother-in-law, Tom Walker; father-in-law, Douglas Walker; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Walker.

Clyde was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend.

Survivors include his loving bride of 38 years, Jan Walker Simmons; one son, Chris Simmons of Forney, Texas; one daughter, Dana Shivers of Brandon; two wonderful grandchildren, Chloe Shivers and Colby Shivers of Brandon; his mother; one sister, Pam Goldman and husband, Danny; two brothers, Trenton Simmons and wife, Lee Ann and David Simmons and wife, Patty, all of Natchez; sisters-in-law, Mary Cheek and husband, Dr. Kenneth Cheek of Northport, Ala., Chandra Calamari and husband, Paul, of Shreveport, La., and Nancy Walker of Wallis, Texas; and a number of close friends, cousins and relatives.
