NATCHEZ — Natchez firefighters worked early Tuesday morning to extinguish a two-house fire on Beaumont Street.

The firefighters’ efforts were mainly directed at a house that sits on the corner of Beaumont Street and Pelican Court. The house to the right of it also caught fire, but it was unclear in which house the fire started.

Neighboring residents reported they believed no one lived in the house on the corner. The neighboring house was also unoccupied, but was under renovation.

Crews responded to the fire sometime around or after midnight and were still on scene at approximately 2 a.m. Most of the fire was out by then, and firefighters were inspecting the damage for hotspots and extinguishing a few remaining flames.

The Natchez Police Department also assisted at the scene.
