FERRIDAY — Burglars broke into the Ferriday Market late Thursday night, forced open the store’s safe and took a substantial amount of cash, investigators said.

Ferriday Police Chief Margaret Lawrence said the lock on the store’s door and the safe were both forced open.

Police were called after store employees arriving to open the store discovered evidence of the break-in.

Markets vice president and office manager Del Loy said the number of perpetrators was unknown but that they had somehow managed to disable the store’s alarm system.

“They were able to get in and do what they did seemingly pretty quick,” Loy said.

The store’s ATM was also damaged, but no money was taken from the machine, Lawrence said.

No arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon.

Lawrence said the FPD is investigating the matter with assistance from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
