NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Marie C. Hunter, 81, of Natchez, who died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at her residence, will be noon Tuesday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Roderick Lewis officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hunter was born May 2, 1934, in Woodville, the daughter of Cleveland and Beulah Payne Sr. She received a GED diploma and was a teacher at AJFC Head Start. She was a Baptist and a member of the deaconess board, and a lifetime member of the NAACP.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terrence Hunter Sr.; two brothers, Cleveland Payne Jr., and August Payne Sr., and one sister, Ethel Payne Isaac.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Hunter Jr., of Natchez; two daughters, Linda Floyd of Natchez and Subrina Tolliver and husband Marvin, of Woodville; one son, Donald Hunter and wife Ethel, of Natchez; two brothers, Oceanus Payne and Franklin Payne Sr., both of Baton Rouge; six sisters, Edith Blakes of Baton Rouge, Alzetta Blakes of Zachary, La., Burtaniel Owens of Columbia, Cleopatra Bethley of Natchez, and Bernetta Payne and Velma Stewart, both of Woodville; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
