NATCHEZ — The stormy weather from Christmas evening caused localized power outages and a risk of flooding, and the Miss-Lou can expect more severe weather tonight.
National Weather Service meteorologist Latrice Maxie said the storm system is expected to reach the area at approximately midnight tonight, and a chance of stormy weather will continue until around midafternoon Monday.
Natchez is under an elevated threat for severe thunderstorms, Maxie said, Residents should expect possible severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts. Tornadoes and localized flash floods are possible.
Friday evening thunderstorms caused brief power outages downtown, Entergy spokesman Tim Runnels said.
“About 500 customers lost power around 6:30 p.m.,” Runnels said. “But it was only about 30 seconds before it was back on.”
Runnels said a large tree fell across the intersection of Cemetery Road and Simpson Road around 7:30 p.m. last night, cutting power to 24 customers until midnight.
Minor outages were scattered across the county, Runnels said.
Maxie said Adams County was under a flash flood warning from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and received 1.17 inches of rain on Christmas Day.
Natchez-Adams County Airport reported wind gusts at 15-20 miles per hour Friday afternoon.
