NATCHEZ — Services for Dr. Joe Herrington, 80, of Church Hill, who died Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Merit Health Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Noelle Read officiating.

Burial will follow at Christ Church Cemetery in Church Hill under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Herrington was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Ackerman, the son of J.D. Herrington and Mary Oldham Herrington.

He had a private family practice from 1963-1997 and served as an emergency room physician with Magnolia Emergency Associates from 1997-2000. He was a member of Homochitto Valley Medical Society, Mississippi State Medical Association, American Medical Association and the Southern Medical Association. He was the past president of Homochitto Valley Medical Society, chief of staff at Natchez Community Hospital from 1985-1986, clinical assistant professor of family medicine at University of Mississippi Medical Center from 1990-1997, president of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians from 1994-1995 and a member of the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure from 1996-2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Joe Douglas Guedon.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Peggie Herrington; two daughters, Becky H. Guedon and husband, Louis II, and Denise H. Seale and husband, Jasper; one son, Michael A. Herrington and wife, Cheri; seven grandchildren, Emile Guedon and wife, Genna, Matthew Guedon and wife, Lauren, Lee Guedon and wife, Nicky, Jessica Felter and husband, Michael, Rebecca Seale, James Herrington and Joshua Herrington; and five great-grandchildren, Louis Guedon III, Douglas Guedon, Charlie Guedon, Maddie Guedon and Scarlett Felter.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Emile Guedon, Matthew Guedon, Lee Guedon, Louis Guedon, Jasper Seale and Michael Felter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital or the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
