FERRIDAY — Services for Harvey A. Hopkins, 98, of Waterproof, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Comer Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Gary Howington and the Rev. George Owens officiating.
Burial will follow at Monclova Cemetery in Waterproof under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hopkins was born June 1, 1917, in Monterey, the son of Finley and Lola Cross Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was a hard-working man and a good provider for his family. He loved everybody he met and especially loved his family. He loved music, especially bluegrass. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Patsy Shearer and LaDean McDaniel; three grandsons, Blaine Hopkins, Gary Shearer and Jonathon Owens; one great-granddaughter, Della Shearer; one son-in-law, Buddy Raley.
Survivors include eight children, Phillip Hopkins and wife, Catherine, of Mendenhall, Joanne Raley Enterprise, Ala., J.E. Hopkins and wife, Wanda, Nelda Rabb and husband, Raymond, and Pam Norwood and husband, David, all of Waterproof, Sheryl Abernathy and husband, Johnnie, of Pinola, Candy Owens and husband, George, of New Hebron and Laney Hopkins and wife, Annette, of Seigen, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jacob Cox, Joel and Dusty Abernathy, Hunter Norwood, Rod McDaniel, Jesse Swilley and Alex Hopkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Jones, Sony Jones and Jeremy Cox.
The family extends thanks to Camelia Hospice, especially Kim Wiley, Irene Wiley and the Rev. Spencer for all their kindness, prayers and consideration shown to their loved one.
