NATCHEZ — Graveside services for James Harold “Hal” Cupit, 83, of Lake Sam Rayburn, Texas, who died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Christus Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper, Texas.
Mr. Cupit was born Feb. 4, 1932, in New Orleans, the son of James and Minnie Mae Cupit.
He was a former resident of Tulsa, Houston and Port Arthur. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
Hal graduated from Mississippi State University in 1956 with a chemical engineering degree. He started his career with Texaco as a chemical engineer and retired in April of 1992, as a supply and distribution regional manager for the U.S. Central Region after 36 years of service. After retirement, he and his wife, Alberta, moved to Lake Sam Rayburn.
He enjoyed golf, fishing and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He was very active in the Rayburn community with the Lake Rayburn voluntary fire department and Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay minister for a number of years.
Mr. Cupit was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Richard Cupit.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Alberta Cupit; one son, James H. Cupit Jr. of Tomball, Texas; two daughters, Rhonda Johnson and husband, William M., of Wichita, Kan., and Minda Gaddis and husband, William T. Gaddis Jr., of Friendswood, Texas; and two grandchildren, Amy Johnson of Wichita and Carrie Lang of Enid, Okla.
Memorials may be made to Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church and Rayburn Fire Department.
