VIDALIA — A former coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student will not get his day in court until January.

Richard Brian Kossum, 32, 1110 Eastwood Road, Natchez, is the former assistant basketball coach at Monterey High School. He was arrested and charged with molestation of a juvenile Oct. 30, 28 days after he resigned his position at the school.

Kossum was set to be arraigned — the process in which he could enter a plea of not guilty, guilty or no contest — in Seventh Judicial District Court Wednesday, and showed up with his attorney for the hearing.

But Assistant District Attorney Ann Siddall told the court Wednesday the district attorney’s office wants to investigate the matter further before the arraignment.

Kossum was given notice to return for arraignment Jan. 20.

While details of the allegations have been largely withheld, investigators said at the time of his arrest Kossum allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Prior to coaching at Monterey, he was the head baseball coach at Natchez High School.
