FERRIDAY — A man is dead after he reportedly shot a woman Tuesday evening at a Gremillion Street residence in Ferriday then turned the gun on himself.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigator Phillip Smith said the man reportedly shot the woman when she arrived at the house to pick up her child.

The man, who is reportedly the father of the child, then shot and killed himself.

The man’s body lay on the ground in front of the house as CPSO deputies and Ferriday police officers worked the scene and searched through the bushes near the body Tuesday evening.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

The child was not injured in the shooting, Smith said.
