AMITE, La. — Despite scoring just eight points in the second half, the Adams County Christian School Rebels were able to down Oak Forest 44-28 with a strong defensive effort.

“I think at halftime we must have gone into a refrigerator,” ACCS head coach Richy Spears said. “Because we came out cold. We hit shots in the first half, and in the second half we played hard, but we just couldn’t hit any shots. We hustled, but just couldn’t finish for some reason.”

Luckily for the Rebels, they were able to capitalize on early success, putting up 14 and 22 points in the first two quarters of play.

Devin Spear led the scoring effort for ACCS with 14 points. Brody Cole chipped in with 12 and Sneah Patel also finished in double-figures with 10 points.

The Rebels have one more game before district play begins and Spears said he hopes his team will come together even more before then.

“I’ve got four seniors back that have been playing with me for four years, but everyone else doesn’t understand what I want yet because they are new,” Spears said. “We are trying to get them adjusted. Hopefully we can get them coming along and get more time in the gym and games because all that is going to do is help us.”

Block 72, Cathedral 50

MONTEREY — The Cathedral Green Wave had an uphill battle when they took the court against Block Thursday night in the Monterey High School tournament.

“They are fast, they can jump and they pound the boards on offense and defense,” Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. “We did a good job in the first half, but the roof caved in in the third quarter. They are a very good team.”

Cathedral trailed the Bears by just six at halftime, but after being outscored 22-10 in the third quarter, the Green Wave ultimately succumbed to the Bears, falling 72-50.

“We did our best hanging in there,” Arnold said. “As time went on, their skill level wore us down. Also, not having Jardarius (Anderson) and James Allen (Coley) certainly didn’t help us.”

Connor Mire and Derrion Batieste led the scoring effort for Cathedral with nine points each. Teammates Craig Bradley and Ty Tobias both chipped in with seven points each.
