FERRIDAY — After just one season at the helm, Chad Harkins will no longer be coaching the Ferriday High School football team.

Harkins tendered his resignation earlier this week, and the Concordia Parish School Board accepted it at their board meeting Thursday night.

Parish Superintendent Loretta Blankenstein said Thursday afternoon that Harkins resigned for personal reasons.

“Basically, he’s said it’s a situation (where) he needed to (resign) at this time for himself and his family,” Blankenstein said.

Blankenstein said at the meeting Thursday night that Ferriday High School would now move to hire a new coach.

Harkins guided the Trojans to a 7-4 record in 2010, including a 5-0 record in LHSAA District 2-2A record and a district title. Ferriday lost to Pope John Paul II High School in the first round of the LHSAA playoffs.

As to where Harkins will go from here, Blankenstein said Thursday afternoon that she heard Harkins had a job lined up.

“Based on info I’ve received, we are understanding that he has a job coming up at Jena High School,” Blankenstein said.

Harkins said he would not comment on his resignation at this time.

Ferriday High School principal Michelle Bethea could not be reached for comment.
