BROOKAHVEN — Keshaun London led all scorers with 25 points and Donterious Taylor added 18 points as the West Lincoln Bears defeated the Cathedral Green Wave 63-55 Monday night.
Only two other players scored for West Lincoln. Ronnie Edwards ended up with 14 points and Dominique Chism had six points. But the Bears benefited from a lackluster first quarter from the visiting Green Wave.
“We just got off to a terrible start,” head coach Peter Arnold said, referring to a first quarter in which Cathedral scored just six points. “We had too many turnovers. When you play on the road, you cannot afford to get in a hole.”
Unfortunately for Cathedral, that’s exactly what happened. The Green Wave got back in the game a few times, but the Bears would answer with a run of their own on each occasion.
“They kept the floor spread. We kept fighting an uphill battle,” Arnold said. “We got behind three different times by 10 points. We would cut it down to two or three. Then they would go on an 8-0 run to get it back to 10.”
Derrion Batiests led the Green Wave with 17 points while James Coley and Connor Mire had eight points each.
Cathedral (1-1) plays at Brookhaven Academy in the District 4-AAA opener next Monday night.
West Monroe girls 52, Vidalia 31
MONROE, La. — Coming off a heartbreaking loss at home in their season opener to in-parish rival Ferriday, the LHSAA Class 3A Vidalia Lady Vikings were looking to get back on track Monday night at the Ouachita Girls Tournament.
Instead, they ran into a buzzsaw in Class 5A West Monroe as the Lady Rebels rolled to a 52-31 victory in the first day of tournament action. No other information on the game was available.
Vidalia (0-2) is scheduled to continue play at the Ouachita Girls Tournament. If this was the Lady Vikings’ only game in this holiday tournament, they will not play again until Tuesday, Dec. 1 at home against Natchez High School.
