Good morning and good Monday. The weather cooled off a bit more over the weekend making it feel more like fall had officially arrived.

But the cool weather wasn’t the only good news from last week. This morning, we’ll remember some of the good news from our community.

4Area residents paused to say, “Thank you,” Wednesday to veterans. The Veterans Day holiday was celebrated across the region with school programs and even parades to honor our vets. We can never say, “Thank you,” enough times to the men and women who served our country.

• After months and months of work, the two campuses of Merit Health Natchez merged into one last week. The move was sad for long-time employees of the former Natchez Community Hospital, but appears to be a positive one for the whole of healthcare in the area.

• Trinity Episcopal Day School’s Holiday Bazaar and Merry Market seemed a success this past weekend. We’re certain the school is appreciative of the volunteers who make he event a success year after year.

• The City of Vidalia is working hard to improve its laws to help prevent blighted areas of the city. We applaud their efforts and wish them success and the project moves forward.

• Alcorn State University earned some recognition by having the top graduation rates for athletes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Congratulations to the players, coaches and staff, but as Alcorn officials suggest, until the graduation rate reaches 100 percent, the work remains.
