NATCHEZ — After four years at the helm of Trinity Episcopal Day School, Head of School Les Hegwood is leaving.

A letter was sent recently to Trinity parents and supporters informing them of the change.

Hegwood is leaving to pursue a vocation as an Episcopal priest, the school reported. Because Hegwood will likely enroll in seminary in the fall, he will not be renewing his employment contract for the 2016-2017 school year.

Michael Blattner, chairman of the school’s board of trustees, wrote in a press release the board was aware of Hegwood’s plans and supports and rejoices with him.

“Trinity Episcopal School is extremely thankful for his four years of leadership and service,” Blattner wrote. “Les has served Trinity with the highest level of integrity and love for the students who have been placed under his care.”

The plan is for Hegwood to finish out the 2015-2016 school year at Trinity.

The Rev. Paul Andersen will become the school’s interim head of school in May, Blattner wrote.

Andersen has just finished serving as the Rector at Christ Church Parish in Christchurch, Va., for 10 years.

Andersen’s experience also includes 20 years working with the United States State Department. Andersen was deployed domestically and internationally, working at schools associated with U.S. embassies.
