NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Robert “Bob” Withrow, 82, of Natchez, who died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Natchez National Cemetery.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Withrow was born in Akron, Ohio, the son of James and Mary Withrow.
He began working for Goodyear as a mechanic. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 in 1950, and served as gun squad leader. He was awarded a number of medals. He said, “275 of us went into battle and only 10 came back,” while serving in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. After serving in the army, he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served until 1959. He also worked for the U.S. Navy building dirigibles, the Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans and later drove a truck across country for a number of years.
Bob had a love for horses and worked on a horse ranch for a number of years after moving to Florida. He was actively involved in the Moose Lodge, serving in a number of positions while he was able to do so.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one grandson, Tyler Withrow; and son-in-law, Jay Kuhn.
Survivors include five daughters, Clara Aufdenkamp of Ohio, Cheryl Anthony and husband, Carl, of McComb, Carolyn Hutchins and husband, Mike, of Natchez, Cindy Kuhn of Idaho, and Kimberly Casanova and husband, James, of Kentwood, La.; eight sons, John Withrow, Michael Withrow and Daniel Withrow, all of Ohio, Christopher Maupin and wife, Glenda, and Tony Withrow and wife, Chynna all of Vidor, Texas, John Withrow and wife, Candy, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Steven Withrow and wife, Teresa, and David Withrow and wife, Staci, of Kentwood; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Withrow would be especially happy for any veteran to attend his service.
The family thanks his physical therapist, Kelly Gay, for the countless hours she listened to his war stories and rants about wanting ice cream, Deaconess Home Health and the nurses at Merit Health Natchez in telemetry that lovingly took care of him. God bless you.
