Driver charged with vehicular homicide in connection with Oct. 1 crash

VIDALIA — A Jonesville man was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide Friday in connection to an Oct. 1 crash that left three Vidalia residents dead.

Louisiana State Police report Mark I. Gordon, 28, 169 Ewing Road, Jonesville, lost control of his 18-wheeler log truck on U.S. 84 east of Louisiana 565. His truck crashed into a Dodge pickup, which was driven by Richard L. Stewart Jr., 49.

Stewart and two of his passengers, Vera C. Stewart, 17, and George Stewart, 15, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead. None of them were wearing their seatbelt.

Passenger Shelia D. Smith, 51, was wearing her seat belt and received moderate injuries.

Gordon was not injured.

In addition to vehicular homicide, Gordon was booked into the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of first degree vehicular negligent injuring and reckless operation of a vehicle.

No bond was set Saturday afternoon.
