BASTROP, La. — Like the Vidalia Vikings, the Delta Charter Storm have decided to move its season finale to tonight.
Still scheduled for 7 p.m., the (2-7) Storm will travel to play an 0-9 Beekman Charter squad.
“Obviously a win would be great to end the season on,” Hoffpauir said. “But I just want us to continue building on what we’ve been building. I call it Storm football, but play with pride and passion for four quarters.”
In order to get that win, Hoffpauir plans on feeding running back Jalen Williams the football in the game. Williams became the Storm’s starting running back after Hoffpauir and assistant coach Steve Davis watched him run the ball during tackling drills.
Hoffpauir went to Davis and suggested the Storm give the wide receiver a shot at running back.
“’We’re not moving the ball very well, so let’s put this kid in the backfield,’” Hoffpauir said. “He started running the ball at practice, and we just looked at each other like, ‘We might be onto something here.’ He ran it hard that week, and he hasn’t slowed down. He might get it 30 times this week.”
Since, Williams has two 100-yard rushing performances under his belt, and Hoffpauir is looking for another 100-yard rushing performance from him tonight.
“(Jalen), I can’t say enough about that kid,” Hoffpauir said. “He’s a coach’s dream. He’s there every day. He’s not flashy or doesn’t do anything spectacular, but he does everything good. He runs the ball like you’re supposed to run the ball.”
The Storm will look to gain three wins in their first varsity football season tonight.
