WINNFIELD — Down by just 14 at halftime, the Vidalia Vikings were looking to make a run at their second district win of the season against Winnfield.
However, the spirited comeback fell short, as the Vikings fell 29-19 on the road.
J’Anthony Foster had three rushing touchdowns for Winnfield, six, 42 and 62 yards, giving the Tigers an edge in the contest.
Foster scored the first points of the game early in the first quarter, but Vidalia was able to answer quickly on a touchdown run from quarterback Tristan Weatherly.
Foster scored again later in the first and also had the lone touchdown in the second quarter to give Winnfield a 21-7 lead at the half.
The Tigers then pushed the lead to 27-7 on a touchdown run early in the fourth, but the Vikings didn’t count themselves out.
Julian Wilson, who eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season in the game, scored on a 24-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 27-13.
Wilson finished the game with 145 yards on 25 carries.
Vidalia got as close as 27-19, when Jordan Mays scored on a fumble return after the Winnfield punter was tackled and coughed up the ball, but an intentional grounding call on Weatherly in the end zone gave the Tigers a safety and a 10 point lead, sealing the victory.
