J. Carson LaCaze of St. John’s Cathedral officiating and assisted by the Rev. Murray Hodge.

Mr. Erwin was born in Longview, Texas, but spent his childhood and early adulthood in Natchez. He was a 1961 graduate of Natchez High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
After college, Steve joined the Air National Guard and later began his career at International Paper Company, where he worked for nearly 30 years. His career at IP led him to live in Bastrop, La., Camden, Ark., and finally Shreveport, where he resided for 31 years.
Steve truly valued all of his co-workers at IP and made lifelong friends in all of the places he lived.
Steve was a loving husband, father, stepfather and grandfather. He was an avid Louisiana State University fan, as evidenced by an entire room in his house devoted to LSU memorabilia. Steve thoroughly enjoyed cooking and entertaining for friends and family. Another favorite activity of Steve’s was meticulously and tirelessly attending to his yard, flower beds and swimming pool.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Erwin.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Karen Zaffater Erwin; his mother, Maribell Erwin; one daughter, Dana Erwin Babin and husband, Scott, of Lafayette, La.; one stepdaughter, Lauren Zaffater; one stepson, Jay Zaffater and wife, Leslie; five grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Caitlin Zaffater, Jacob Zaffater, Magali Zaffater, Garic Zaffater, Cameron Babin and Owen Babin; three brothers, Bob Erwin and wife, Millicent, of Houston, Charles Erwin and wife, Ruth, of Huntsville, Ala., and Dan Erwin and wife, Lisa, of Lafayette; his former wife, Jerry Ann Hall Erwin of Shreveport; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Carol Ferrara and Jay Lehmann of Natchez are both much loved friends, who are considered family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the ICU nurses and ER staff at Christus Highland, as well as Dr. Snead and the other doctors and staff at the Christus Cancer Treatment Center. The family also thanks Dr. Jimmy Smith and his staff.
