LISMORE, La. — Services for LaVerne McNeely Moore, 79, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center and her husband, Edgar Moore Jr., 88, who died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Azalea Estates in Monroe, La., three days after his beloved wife of 60 years died, will be at 2 p.m. today at Lismore Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Cullum officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Moore was born Oct. 22, 1936, in Lismore, the daughter of Fount McNeely and Mary Edith Harp McNeely.

Mr. Moore was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Wortham, Texas, the son of Edgar Massey Moore Sr. and Velma Cummings Moore.

Mrs. Moore was a lifelong resident of Ferriday.

LaVerne retired from Louisiana Department of Social Services where she was a social worker. She was also a school teacher.

LaVerne was a member of the Eastern Star and DAR. Most of all, she was a devoted mother and wife. She loved to sew, quilt, cook, spend time outdoors, growing plants and gardening. She and Edgar enjoyed traveling and always had company. They were charter members of Westside Baptist Church and she served in a number of different roles in the church.

Mr. Moore was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Wortham, Texas, the son of Edgar Massey Moore Sr. and Velma Cummings Moore.

Edgar enjoyed a variety of work — he started out working in the oil field industry and particularly liked seismograph work for oil field drilling. It was his work that brought him to Ferriday, where he met LaVerne and started their family.

He worked as a mechanic in the farming and agriculture industry, and he ventured into buying and selling, which was work that he loved the most. He bought and sold a little bit of everything form scrap metal to collectibles and farm equipment. He loved trading and the “art of making the deal.” He enjoyed the time he spent with their kids and grandchildren. He always had a soft spot in his heart for animals of every kind.

Edgar and LaVerne enjoyed traveling, having company and sitting outside watching their squirrels and birds.

Edgar and LaVerne were preceded in death by their parents; their son, Massey Moore; her siblings, Juanita Crouch, Maurice Willson, James McNeely, Bobby Ray McNeely and Pat McNeely Sr.; and his two sisters, Margaret Matheson and Ila May Baker.

Survivors include one daughter, Amanda Hinton and husband, Douglas, of Monroe; two sons, Mark Moore and wife, Wanda, of West Monroe, La., and Seth Moore and wife, Pauline, of Midland, Texas; their grandchildren, Ricky and Rebecca Hinton, Beth and Gregoire Antonelli, Shea and Joni Moore, Andrew and Laureen Hinton, Sarah Bearden, Whitney Moore, Allie Moore and Blake Cooper, Ashton Moore and Peyton Moore; great-grandchildren, Jaden Moore, Reece Hinton, Trey Adam, Ty Moore, Abram Hinton and Easton Moore; daughter-in-law, Rose; his brother, Robert Moore and wife, Joyce; and his sisters, Betty Eschberger and husband, George, and Edna Ruth Denton and husband, Mel.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Hinton, Shea Moore, Andrew Hinton, Ashton Moore, Peyton Moore and Derrick Bradley.
