NATCHEZ — With ghastly weather expected, the City of Natchez has moved Halloween trick-or-treating from Saturday to Friday.

A notice from the mayor’s office stated that trick-or-treating was moved to Friday because thunderstorms expected on Halloween could pose safety risks for trick-or-treaters.

The mayor’s administrative assistant Temple Hendricks said parents with small children had requested the city move the observance of Halloween to Friday.

The Natchez Downtown Development Association also rescheduled its annual Little Feet Trick or Treat event for Friday. Main and Franklin streets between Union and Pearl streets will be closed to traffic from 5 to 7 p.m. for children in costumes to visit area downtown stores for trick-or-treating. Children under 12 years-old must be accompanied by an adult.

City of Vidalia spokeswoman Sheri Rabb said Vidalia would not be moving its observance of Halloween.

“Last time we changed (Halloween), we had numerous complaints that people trick-or-treated both nights,” Rabb said.

Thunderstorms are likely Saturday, with an 80-percent chance of precipitation in the area.
