JACKSON — The Mississippi Association of Independent Schools state cross country meet has been postponed until Nov. 2 due to inclement weather.
“This is cross country, but it could’ve gotten pretty ugly out there,” Cathedral cross country coach Tommy Smith said.
Smith said the news wasn’t one he and his team were hoping for, but have taken as a positive.
“I asked the team how the postponing affected them and 85 percent said it just gives us another week to prepare,” Smith said. “That is a very positive note.”
However, Smith said there was some let down involved.
“They kids were hyped and ready,” he said. “And learning the news was a let down, but we realigned our thinking about it.”
The Green Wave are looking to contend as one of the state’s best teams, and Smith believes they can.
“The boys are pushing right at the top and I think we should be in the top three girls teams,” Smith said. “If the girls have a solid day, then it can be anybody’s race.”
The state meet will take place at Choctaw Trails in Jackson beginning at 10 a.m.
