Delta Charter, Sicily Island look for district win

FERRIDAY — Two teams with six-game losing streaks will meet Friday, but the matchup is sure to bring more intensity than just a normal meeting between teams with a combined 1-13 record.
The (0-7) Sicily Island Tigers will meet the (1-6) Delta Charter Storm in a showdown that pits two local teams in familiar situations against one another.
“No doubt about it, both teams are in similar situations trying to rebuild,” Delta Charter head coach Jarrett Hoffpauir said. “Both schools are right up the road from one another, and we know some of our kids know their kids. I think there’s going to be a lot of emotion Friday night. Our kids are fired up.”
After winning the first game of the season, the Storm have dropped six straight games, while Sicily Island lost to Vidalia High School by one point before enduring a lengthier losing streak.
Both schools are still trying to find their place, playing varsity football for the first time (Sicily Island hasn’t played varsity football since 2001).
And while the season has been a learning process for first-year head coach Hoffpauir, he said his group of players are still giving full effort, and this Friday is a perfect opportunity for his team to get another win.
“We need to get that feeling again,” Hoffpauir said. “Losing, it’s easy to fall into that trap. And that can become contagious.”
The Tigers and Storm will kickoff at 7 p.m. in Ferriday Friday.
