Trinity facing tough test at WCCA

WOODVILLE — An eleven-point victory is the only thing standing in the way of the Trinity Episcopal Day School Saints and a district championship.
However, that victory must come against Wilkinson County Christian Academy this Friday, a team that is much improved and currently atop the district with a 7-2 overall record and 2-0 mark in district play.
“All we are doing is worrying about getting the win,” Trinity head coach Zach Rogel said. “It doesn’t matter if it is by one or 11 points.”
WCCA has been rolling and is on a five-game winning streak, and Rogel said the Rams will be a tough opponent.
“Coach (Chris) McGraw has them playing some ball over there,” Rogel said. “They are really impressive.”
Offensively, Rogel said the Rams are fairly straightforward.
“They don’t do anything fancy, they just line up and run it right at you,” he said. “They are huge on the offensive line.”
WCCA’s Caleb Poole has had multiple 200-plus yard rushing games and the Saints will have their hands full.
“We’ve got to limit the run,” Rogel said. “We can’t stop it, but we have to force some three and outs and make every yard tough. We are really emphasizing this being a game of inches and swarming to the ball on defense.”
The matchup is also one the Saints haven’t had trouble getting up for.
“I think they are pretty hyped, and I’ve heard WCCA in the locker room for the last few weeks,” Rogel said. “They are keeping up with their scores, and I think we’ll get the best game from both teams.”
The Saints and Rams are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Woodville.
