Marlow’s dedication is well deserved

Years from now, the small green sign on Government Fleet Road may not mean much to drivers headed to the Natchez-Adams County Port.
But for those among us lucky enough to know Jim Marlow and his work, the three simple words are significant and a small reminder of Marlow’s importance to county residents.
Adams County dedicated the Government Fleet Road Bridge in Marlow’s honor this week. The move was merely a small way to say “thanks” for Marlow’s more than two decades of dedication and work as the Adams County engineer.
During his time, with the county, Marlow has overseen projects that resurfaced more than 120 miles of roadway and significantly repaired or replaced more than 20 county bridges.
Typically, civil engineers are not the kind of people who seek lots of attention and praise, and Marlow is not an exception.
He has quietly, but sure-handedly, guided projects through several different county administrations all while keeping the public’s safety and fiscal responsibility top of mind.
All too often, it’s rare that a community stops and says, “thank you,” to a person while they’re still actively contributing to the community.
We’re thankful the county did so for Marlow, who seems deserving of recognition. We can think of no better honor for an engineer than to have his name on a structure as important as a bridge.
