NATCHEZ — Local law enforcement seized three guns and arrested three people during a traffic stop downtown Monday.
While patrolling Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted Anthony K. Haywood Sr., 30, on the corner of Homochitto and Martin Luther King Jr. streets, sheriff’s reports indicate.
Haywood had a pending arrest warrant for a contempt of court charge at the Natchez Police Department, so the deputies pulled him over.
NPD was dispatched to the traffic stop near the Main Street fire station, and Haywood was placed under arrest. While being handcuffed, Haywood reportedly told police he had a gun in his pants. Deputies reportedly found a loaded .45-cal. pistol.
Meanwhile, Haywood’s mother Lisa Haywood, 46, arrived on the scene and reportedly attempted to approach Haywood’s vehicle.
Officers reportedly asked Lisa Haywood to stay back by her own vehicle, but she approached again and was asked to stay away from the scene. She reportedly refused and was arrested and charged with failure to comply/disorderly conduct.
Deputies also reportedly found a 9 mm Glock pistol under the passenger seat and a loaded 7.62 x 39 mm firearm, the same caliber as an AK-47, in the back seat.
The Glock was reported stolen, and James Edward Marsaw, 29, a passenger in Haywood’s vehicle, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Anthony Haywood was charged with possession of a concealed weapon. He was released on a $1,500 bond Wednesday. It was his ninth arrest by the ACSO. His warrant with the NPD stemmed from a previous mischievous mischief charge. He was released from the Natchez City Jail Wednesday.
Lisa Haywood was released from the county jail Tuesday on a $1,000 bond. It was her second arrest by ACSO.
Marsaw remained in the county jail Wednesday evening with no bond. It was his fifth arrest by ACSO.
