CENTREVILLE — Coming off a big win against Riverdale Academy last Friday, the Trinity Episcopal Day School Saints appear to have found their rhythm again. However, this week’s test may toss a bump in the Saints’ road to the playoffs.

Trinity will travel to take on historic MAIS powerhouse Centreville Academy, who is the defending MAIS AA state champion.

“They never have to rebuild, they just have to regroup,” Trinity head coach Zach Rogel said. “Bill Hurst is probably the best to ever do it and (Centreville) will come ready to play. They may not have the athletes like last year, but they have plenty of guys to replace them like (Tyler) Caston.”

Going into the game, Rogel said he knows his team may be a classification smaller and have half of the amount of players as the Tigers, but Trinity is embracing it.

“It is all about winning the big game,” Rogel said. “We haven’t won the big game since we’ve all been together here and that is what we are trying to challenge ourselves to do. We have been focused this week and we are embracing the underdog role.”

After suffering back-to-back losses, Centreville got back on track last week with a win against Central Private doing what they do best — running the football.

The Tigers racked up more than 300 rushing yards in the game, and Rogel said he knows they will come out running once again, especially out of the double-wing formation.

“We’ve got a little game plan for it,” Rogel said. “We have two or three ways we are going to approach it and we won’t be surprised when they come out in it.”

While a win would surely boost the Saints into the final games of the regular season, Rogel said his team is taking extra precaution not to look ahead.

“We are taking things one week at a time,” he said. “We know in order for us to be in the best position possible it is all about winning the next one. That is our goal for this week and we know it is going to take four quarters of total effort.”

The Saints and Tigers are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
