FERRIDAY — Concordia Parish and state law enforcement officers responded to a suspected bomb found on Florida Avenue in Ferriday this morning.
Ferriday Police Department interim chief Margaret Lawrence said at approximately 5 a.m., the FPD received a call from a Florida Avenue resident who said when they walked outside to their car, they spotted a bomb atop their vehicle.
Lawrence said the suspected explosive appeared to be a pipe bomb. It was later determined to be a fake.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., a bomb robot, operated by the Louisiana State Police bomb squad, destroyed the suspected explosive.
One suspect has been identified in the incident, Lawrence said.
Two loud sounds were heard approximately five minutes while the bomb squad destroyed the explosive. Lawrence said the second noise was the bomb squad ensuring the device was destroyed.
The Louisiana State Police took all evidence from the scene for further investigation, Lawrence said.
Several Florida Avenue residents were evacuated from the scene, and no one was injured.
