LIBERTY — For those who thought MAIS District 5-AA was there for Trinity Episcopal to run away with, Amite School Center decided that was not going to happen Friday night — not even staring down a double-digit deficit.

Rebels junior quarterback Davin Booty scored on a one-yard run with just 10 seconds left, his second rushing score of the game, as the Rebels rallied in the fourth quarter to stun the Saints 30-27 to perhaps make this district a three-team race.

“I got out-coached. I’m proud of my coaches and my players,” Trinity Episcopal head coach Zach Rogel said.

What allowed Amite School Center to not only stay in the game but win it late was its stout running game. Led by the combination of Booty and Josh Jackson, the Rebels racked up an impressive 374 yards on the ground.

Each of them had two rushing touchdowns and Booty ran in twice on two-point conversions.

It was indeed a contrast in styles on offense from each team – the Rebels’ ground-and-pound attack against the Saints’ aerial assault. Kevontaye Caston went 9-for-12 passing for 170 yards with threw three touchdown passes, two to Jakarius Caston and the other to Demond Fleming.

Kevontaye Caston also returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and his two-point conversion run gave the Saints a 15-8 lead at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter.

Jakarius Caston caught four passes for 114 yards while Fleming had four catches for 56 yards and his 11-yard TD reception gave them a 27-16 advantage with 49 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

What hurt Trinity the most was a lack of a running game. The Saints were held to 70 rushing yards on 19 total carries. Cade Wells was their leading rusher with 35 yards on five carries.

Trinity Episcopal (2-4, 1-1) will travel to Coushatta, La. to take on Riverdale Academy next Friday at 7 p.m.
