NATCHEZ — Services for Pearlene Gaylor Woods, 84, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Church of Jesus Christ God’s Son with the Rev. Samuel Watkins Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Woods was born March 29, 1931, along with her twin, Vearlene Gaylor, to Steve and Dora Gaylor.

She attended St. Frances School and graduated with honors. She was employed by Abram and Krauss of Natchez for a number of years.

She married James T. Woods Sr. and to this union, 10 children were born.

Mrs. Woods was baptized in Jesus name in 1972 and shortly after received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Bibleway Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the Rev. Claude Hawkins. She attended the Church of Jesus Christ God’s Son faithfully and served as a Sunday school teacher, usher, missionary and mother.

Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James T. Woods Sr.; one son, Willie “Buck” Woods; four brothers, Steve Jr., Oliver, Floyd and Ernest Gaylor; and six sisters, Bessie Adams and husband, Ted, Cora Gaylor, Bernice Carter, Flossie Gaylor, Florida Gardner and twin sister, Vearlene Gaylor.

Survivors include two daughters, Dora Conner and husband, Marshall, and Levera Rankin and husband, Franklin, all of Natchez; seven sons, Cleotha and wife, Betty, James Jr. and wife, Claudette, Cliff and wife, Florine, Roy and wife, Lana, Jeffery and wife, Ruthie, and Charlie Jake Woods, all of Natchez, and Terry Woods and wife, Carrie, of Winston Salem, N.C.; one sister, Annie Shepherd; one brother, Levester Gaylor and wife, Beverly; all of Natchez; one special daughter and grandson, who she reared as her own, Angela Brooks and D’Markus Woods, both of Clinton; four sisters-in-law, Julia Henry, Clara Gaylor, Florida Sylvester and Dorothy Gaylor, all of Natchez; one brother-in-law, Ernest Woods; a special family, Dan and Jacque Lee of Clinton; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended families, relatives and friends.
