MONTEREY — A Denham Springs, La., man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sending nude photographs of himself to a Monterey High School student.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Vernon Stevens said Brandon Anglin, 24, 11335 Oak Allen Drive, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer- aided solicitation of a minor.
Stevens said school officials found pornographic material on one of the school’s student-issued iPads and notified the CPSO. Stevens said he is not sure when the photos were sent, but said officers investigated the report last week.
Authorities were able to determine Anglin sent the photos to the student after reviewing emails exhanges between Anglin and the student and interviewing the student.
Anglin reportedly refused to be interviewed when officers attempted to contact him, Stevens said. Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Anglin on a probation and parole hold Tuesday.
Anglin is on probation for charges including theft, Stevens said.
Officers are investigating to see if, perhaps, more than one individual may have been involved, Stevens said.
Anglin was being held Wednesday without bond.
Concordia Parish School District Superintendent Paul Nelson said he could not confirm or deny if Anglin’s arrest was connected to a similar incident that happened approximately three weeks ago at an unnamed school in the district. Nelson said he was not sure if an arrest had been made in the incident that happened three weeks ago.
“I don’t know of any other incident that happened at our school district,” Nelson said. “This is not a common occurrence.”
In the incident from three weeks ago, Nelson said he believed a student spotted “unauthorized” photos on an iPad and gave it to a teacher who was able to back track and discover that a student had been sending the photos.
The photos were apparently sent through a messaging app on the iPad. Nelson said messaging apps usually will not work on the iPads because the system won’t allow them to be downloaded.
“Somehow or another this particular messaging system was able to get through when normally they’re not allowed to get through,” he said.
Nelson refused to identify the student or his or her school. The photographs, Nelson said, were not being sent to another student.
Nelson said the student was disciplined, and the app has been flagged so it will not be able to get through the system in the future.
