The music and majesty of Broadway are coming to Natchez Saturday for the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society’s first benefit concert to support the group’s new shelter.

“Broadway Favorites” will feature vocalist Annie Fitch, whose parents are local residents Jay and Kathy Fitch. Kathy is the president of the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society. Annie has performed in shows such as Radio City Music Hall’s “Christmas Spectacular” as Mrs. Claus and in the 2011-2012 tour of “Shrek the Musical,” in both the U.S. and Asia as Princess Fiona.

“We’re always looking for good venues for fundraising, and Annie had offered to do something for us,” Kathy said.

The program for the evening, Annie said, will include classic Broadway songs from the “The Phantom of the Opera,” “West Side Story,” “Wicked” and other musicals.

“We’re going to be doing probably about 16 songs, and you’re going to hear things from classic Broadway all the way to today,” Annie said.

“Broadway Favorites” is the humane society’s first musical fundraiser. The day also marks another first for the society — the grand opening of the new shelter.

The new shelter will be bigger and allow NACHS to take better care of the animals, Kathy said, but there are some drawbacks.

“It will also be a more expensive place to keep the animals, and we’re going to be working to try and do a lot more fundraisers in the community,” Kathy said.

The proceeds, she said, will go to the shelter’s general operating fund, which pays for the food and care for the animals, including veterinary expenses.

“It’s basically the fund that keeps the doors open,” Kathy said.

Annie said she hopes the audience will enjoy the evening.

“Our goal is really to celebrate the fact that the shelter’s opening and raise some extra money to help the animals,” Annie said.

The event will be at 6:15 p.m. at Waverly Plantation, 790 U.S. 61 S. Tickets are $40 and include appetizers.
